COVID-19 Policy

Communication & Respect

The instructor will be held to the same standard as students and parents. Open and honest communication is paramount. When in doubt, err on the side of caution! Granted, levels of comfort may vary from family to family, and the instructor would like to honour the comfort level of the least comfortable or most immuno-compromised person.

Also, given the close nature of some families with the instructor's, Krissy would ask that during the pre- and post-lesson interactions and lessons that these rules will be observed, no matter what the relation. Please respect this and do not put your teacher in the position of having to ask repeatedly for compliance.

In the event that the rate of community spread increases, in-person lessons will pivot to online lessons. Lesson times may shift slightly (as buffer time between slots will no longer be necessary). If a parent or student at any time would like to switch to online lessons, this option is available.

Krissy reserves the right to pivot online at any point.

No student, parent or teacher shall attend any in-person lesson if they have tested positive for or are showing any symptoms of COVID-19:

  • new or worsening cough

  • shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • temperature equal to or over 38°C

  • feeling feverish

Students and instructors will wear masks at all times indoors. Parents will wear masks if they enter to use the washroom.

  • Students will please not arrive more than 2 minutes before their allotted time. The schedule has been designed to allow 15 minutes between lessons to avoid overlapping of arrivals/departures, for cleaning between students and for airing out of the room.

  • Students may want to bring a sweater in case open windows affect the temperature!

  • Students will bring only essential items inside.

  • Parents/guardians may accompany students to the door.

  • Students will put on their mask before they enter.

  • The instructor will ask screening questions when the student arrives:

    • Have you been in contact with anyone with COVID-19?

    • Have you traveled outside of Atlantic Canada in the past 14 days?

    • Are you experiencing any of these symptoms?

    • Fever/chills

    • Cough/shortness of breath

    • Sore throat

    • Body aches

    • Headache

    • Runny nose

  • When students enter, they will please sanitize their hands at the station.

  • Students will remove their shoes and place them on the designated mat under the chair. (They may use this chair to sit on.)

  • They will place their jacket and bag on the designated chair in the entry.

  • They will take out their music and binder and place on the piano stand.

  • If they need to use the washroom, they will please keep their mask on at all times, limit the surfaces they touch, and wash their hands thoroughly when finished.

Students will please not stay more than 2 minutes after their lesson. The schedule has been designed to allow 15 minutes between lessons to avoid overlapping of arrivals/departures, for cleaning between students and for airing out of the room.

Students will please follow hand sanitization and cleaning as outlined above. Krissy will disinfect all frequently touched surfaces before and after each lesson. Students are not to touch any chairs, steps, or other surfaces that they are not using themselves. Students will let Krissy know if they have touched a surface that she may be unaware of, so that it may be cleaned.

Students should avoid touching their masks or faces. Individual student supply kits will be provided for students. Krissy will bring these out and put them away.

All attempts will be made to avoid the teacher touching any books, binders, music, etc. belonging to the student. Students will write on their music themselves when possible. Krissy will scan and email most sheet music or handouts. Students will either write out their weekly assignments themselves or Krissy will email these to parents/students. (Or both!)
